Bigelow, Jacob

(February 27, 1787 – January 10, 1879) Physician, botanist, and botanical illustrator. Jacob Bigelow was one of the founders of Mount Auburn Cemetery and served on the board of trustees from 1831-1879 and was president from 1845-1871. He did much to shape the Cemetery including designing [[Bigelow Chapel]], [[Washington Tower]], and the [[Entrance Gateway]]. He also served as the corresponding secretary of the [[Massachusetts Horticultural Society]] from 1829 to 1833. Husband of [[Bigelow, Mary S.|Mary S. Bigelow]]. [[Lot 116]].
