CIVIL WAR Service Record: Commissioned an officer [2nd Lieut} in Company H, Massachusetts 1st Cavalry Regiment on 28 Dec 1861. Promoted to Full 1st Lieutenant on 1 May 1862. Mustered out on 9 Apr 1864. Promoted to Brevet Captain on 13 Mar 1865; appointment to the 10th U.S. Calvary, Jul 1866. Promoted to Brevet Major on 2 Mar 1867 "for gallant and meritorious services at the Battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia".

Grandson of John Davis.
