Description

(August 8, 1763 – April 15, 1844) An early American architect, and has been regarded by many as the first native-born American to practice architecture as a profession. The elegant architecture of Charles Bulfinch helped define American style in the years following the Revolution. He embraced symmetry and simplicity, and utilized the domes, columns, and decoration of Ancient Greece and Rome. His best known works include the Massachusetts State House in Boston, MA and the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol building.
