is behind me. Eventually they are going to have
to make me a civilian. Naturally they will
do this against my will. I told you that I
had written Gen. Royall again about a transfer.
He let me down very graciously. No soap.
Having had blasted my last hope of a transfer
I can look forward with resignation anyhow.
I know now what I have to do. Nothing
could be worse than what I am doing and
I have gotten fat on the past 6 months
of this. I can now be as independent as
I please. They wont transfer me. I have my
promotion; so to hell with the Army! Tra-la.

Thursday I am moving to Mumoran[?]
on the southeast coast of Hokkaido.
I shall probably be down there for about
3 months or so (until the division leaves).
We will be away from Regimental, Division
& Corps H's which are located in Sapporo.
This will be a great relief. In addition to
this, the dispensary & Med. Sect. quarters are
STEAM-HEATED. The officers' quarters are
really elegant. I was down there last
week-end & saw them. They are really
something. There are two brand-new
billiard tables & a couple of ping-pong
tables to add to the joy of things.
Steam heat also makes life more pleasant.
The building was the Steel Mill's Club. The
nips really went in for fancy clubhouses.
It is like a resort hotel & is run by the
Nips. Each person has 3 or 4 Nip servants
to take care of cleaning-up etc. I shall
not rebel at the luxury.
