Today I went down to the 27th Med Lab
& talked them into a bunch of Laboratory
supplies which will give me a chance to
do blood counts etc. on the men. The Nips
have a microscope down there which
will come in pretty handy for this sort of
thing.

Today I got paid for the 1st time since
becoming a Capt. (372.00) Now don't
go spending all the money! I'll be able
to send you $100+ each month for
banking purposes. Eventually we should have a
little nest egg. I hope you got the money
I sent to Barrett & you. Please let me
know about all money orders you receive
so that I can throw the receipts away.
Tonight is New Years Eve and there is a
big blow-out scheduled for the Officer's
Club. (Hot & cold running Geishas etc.)
I think I'll duck out right after
supper. We are having turkey for dinner
which is used as the main pretext for
getting us together. Tomorrow the Regtl,
C.O. is having "Open House" to which
all officers are "invited." Officially we are
invited & unofficially we are ordered to be
present. That's another thing I like about
the Army. The free choice about such
things is really democratic. I'm afraid
that if the Old Man didn't order us to
be present no one would be there, and
he knows it.
