Dear Mother,

How are you this time? Fine I hope.

Had a couple of letters from you. Think I had about 8 from Cleo. ha! ranging from the 20th of Aug. to the 2 of Sept.

although I don't know if she is shooting me a line or not, which I don't care much myself.

That is one thing that don't bother me, girls.

Al least not [crossed out] now. About 6 months before I came in the Navy it did. If you know what I mean. You know she came to the house a few times. I also had one from Maydell too. If I don't have time to write her tell her I received it. Will you? and will write when I can.

By the way Ma, If you received a letter a day or two before you get this one, it probably had the wrong date on it. I think I put Aug. 17 on it. I am not sure, insted of Sept 17. How are they getting along with the crops now?

Cleo said, Irving was talking about going back to school and drive the bus. Tell him he had better do it. Old Sam must have his eye on some girl at school. ha!

It wouldn't be down the road would it Sam? At a [certon?] little store?

Well Ma, tell all hello for me and that I am O.K.

Love as ever

Your son Ernest Ball

Hello Ma,

Guess it's been quit a while since you heard from me. Well I am well and O.K. Hope you the same. I guess you know that it isn't every day one gets to write out here.

Mom I told you in one of my other letters to ask Annie [De.?] about that knife. I have one but the one's you buy aren't so hot. And a good knife sure comes in handy. That is if she didn't send it to James. She wrote me some time ago that he said not to send it.

By the way when did you hear from him. I wonder if he is still [crossed out] writing to [Vernele?].

Mother what do you know, I had a letter from Millards girl the other week. And my old girl said
