Dear Sir,

A complaint has been made to this Society that a Horse "dead lame" was employed before one of the 4th Avenue Cars yesterday. The number of such Car is "36" and was seen by the informer on Union Square near 15th Street at 1/4 to One Oclock.

The title of the Society [as?] above sufficient to satisfy any reasonable person that it does not desire nor intend to interfere with the legitimate living of any Company or individual; but was created to see that the laws designed for the

protection of the noble Horse as well as all other dumb creatures are enforced.

To a Gentleman so well known in the Country for honor and humanity as yourself, I need only mention the painful fact which forms the subject of this note to have [orders?] at once [issued?] to your employees [underlined] forbidding its recurrences.-
