My dear Mr Gibert

In order to enable me to give my undivided time to the more legitimate labours of this Society: several [gentlemen?] - such as Mr. Jas. Brown, Moses Taylor; Marshall O. Roberts; C.V.S Roosevelt & others have adopted the generous practise of making an annual donation in aid of our efforts for the protection of dumb creatures.

My own contributions cannot be much less than that [illegible], [exhange?] of my services. Will you [not?] [kindly?], follow the example above cited? and oblige

Your Obt Servant
Henry [underlined] Bergh [underlined]
