Dr. Leffingwell 2.

I do not understand why it is necessary to have the Convention before Congress meets, please tell me where the connection is?

I wish you would write to Mr. Brown about the matter of not meeting in Philadelphia expect that [crossed out] & I hope you will not urge having the Convention earlier.

Your letter must have been delayed on the way as I have only just received it this morning, and it is dated August 27th. perhaps I have told you in a previous letter that I expect to be away for a few days.

Will you not also write to Mr. Shortall? I think a word from you would have weight. I thought that Mr. Jenkins had resigned from the American Humane Association?

Who do you think should be the next President? Will you be considering the matter?

Yrs in haste S. J. E.
