The commercial tomato is very robust, has large open, compound leaves and comparatively small and some what rolled leafelets which with its upright tendency of growth, give the plant a sturdy and compact appearance.

There are many different varieties of tomatoes varying in size from the small currant type to the large irregular form of the Beefstake species. In color they range from the deep red of the cherry through the Many shades of red and the purple of the Beauty and the yellow of the Golden Queen.

In the Northern states the crop is short owing to the late frost in the spring and early frost of autumn. In Florida however there is a long season. The seeds can be planted in November. The early crop is usually shipped to Northern Markets for sale The Central States are
