There are three types of tomatoes viz: the currant, cherry and commercial types , of which there are many varieties.

The currant tomato, is a weak growing, small-leafed plant bearing its small fruit in large currant-like clusters; the individual fruits or berries being about one fourth inch in diameter and usually red in color.

The cherry tomato, is some what similar in growth to the currant, but more robust with larger foliage and fruits from one half to five eights inchis in diameter, borne in large clusters. The smooth, spherical fruits of these two classes are usually two-celled and very regular in shape and size.
