Committee appointed by the town to treat with the retailers of ardent spirits. . reported at an adjourned mg [MEETING] this evening. . by which it appeared that the sub-committees generally had punctually attended to their several appointment and had met with as much encouragement as could be expected, that many of the retailers had relinquished the practice altogether, & some who engaged they should quit retailing after they had disposed of their present stock. But there was some remaining who gave but little encouragement that the [THEY] should stop selling, unless it was for want of customers. But on the whole great progress was made towards the accomplishment of the great object, that of checking the evils of Intemperance.
