15th 1 mo Thomas took the steam boat with 5 lighters in toe [TOW] & arrived at Old Town in safety.

12th Having 5 Lighters loaded the steam went for the purpose & took them all in toe [TOW] & arrived here at 8 o'clock without any accident nothwithstanding the wind was ahead & a remarkable thick fog.

24 The ship is now at Old Town waiting suitable opportunity to come, which as the harbor is now froze out to the Bar is quite uncertain whether she will get until spring. Had Thomas not exerted himself beyond what ever was before done in a similar case the whole would now been at Old Town.

24th The Ship Sarah Benjamin Barney arrived two days after the Phoenix. The ship & all her cargo is now at the Vineyard waiting for a suitable time to come.

2nd At 7 o'clock this evening a fire broke out in upper part of Elisabeth Chase's trading shop which was occasioned by some deficiency in the stovepipe that led in to the chimney in the garret. It appeared that Elisabeth was abroad & left much fire in the stove. The weather was very dry & the wind at NW blowing very heavy. Notwithstanding this, with the most masterly exertions, the fire was checked without doing much damage to any other building. As the fire took place in the garret, it enabled Elisabeth to save the most of her good in the basement story. She went herself into the shop in search of a deposit of money, which she found in a bag & handed it to some unknown person with directions to give it to her brother Gorham Coffin. But the receiver of the money in whom she placed confidence has not returned it. It is therefore probably lost as to her about 400$.
