As it appears that the Small Pox prevails in many places on the Continent viz. Philadelphia, New York, Providence & New Bedford, and as there is a large number in this place, particularly children of 4 years old and under, & others of adult age, who have not had the Small Pox, nor the kine Pox, it is thought highly expedient to promote the vaccination of the kine pox to all who are willing to undergo the operation.
And as it fully believed & confirmed by long experience that it is a shield against the Small Pox - A town meeting was held the 29th 5o/m to take into consideration the expediency of carrying on the innoculation at the expence [EXPENSE] of the town It was voted that the Select men be a Committee to make such arrangements to carry it into effect as the subject requires, they have therefore agreed with Doctr. Charles Winslow in that service & have assigned times & places for the purpose, who has innoculated many children & (I believe) given general satisfaction.

The repeated rains of late has been abundant, which I think is likely to produce great crops of hay. But the weather generally has been uncommonly cold, which prevents the growth of vegetation. The gardens are very backward.
To-day a heavy rain storm with much thunder & lightening [LIGHTNING]. Some of the streets are nearly covered with water.
