1834 28th 6 mo A heavy rain storm wind SE which was very acceptable as the ground had become quite dry.

6th 7mo The weather of late has been warm, which brought forward vegetation remarkably. The gardens, etc. look finely. The crops of Hay are abundant.

18th 10 mo Myself with my wife & Peter left here in the Steam Boat and returned in two weeks & one day, which time we attended the Quarterly meeting at Flushing, and then went onto Philadelphia, and made a visit of 5 days with our son David and his wife & our little grand-daughter Eliza Macy. We left Philadelphia at half past seven in the morning & arrived in New Bedford next day at half past one PM. The weather in general during our absence was very pleasant, which enabled us to perform all parts of our cruise to satisfaction. Particularly in Philadelphia we improved all the time we were there in going to meetings, in riding and walking to view the City, and its various embellishments, and the most of the places that were interesting to us. And visiting our friends. We found the City and its appendages far superior in splendor and magnitude than we anticipated; the vast public works, the beauty of the plan, by which the city was laid out, the buildings, the markets, the public squares, the water works that lead the water in the city; in short every thing we saw was to us marvelously wonderful. And we may say of the people with whom we associated during the visit they may very well compares with the pleasantness of the City. They were very friendly & kind to us, and exhibited great freedom in conversation and deportment, during our stay with them.
