1835 1 mo Since the cold spell in last month the weather in general has been pretty fair for winter. Short turn of cold which would freeze over the harbor & soon mild away & rain storm ensue, and suddenly change to cold again. Frequent flight of snow, but not enough for Sleighs to run.

2 mo The weather this month very similar to the last. Not one snow storm nor one very heavy gale of wind, and on the whole it may be said the winter has nearly past & may be called moderate for the more part.

27th 2 mo We began to flatter ourselves that the winter would pass without a hard snow storm, but this day proved that our prognostic was not to depended on. A severe snow storm commenced in the night & in the morning it increased to a violent gale & the copious fall of snow was quite uncommon, but it was so dry that it mostly blew up in drifts, which in some places was over 5 feet deep. The sleighs turned out but they made bad work of it by reason of the bare spots of sand & large drifts of snow. In the storm a Schooner from Thomas town was cast-away in the Cod of the Bay. She was loaded with Lime, bound to New York. She discharged her deck load, it is probable she may be got off, as she is not bilged. The weather since the storm is cold thermometer at 10 degrees. Ice makes fast. The harbor is covered with white ice but the weather appears to be getting more moderate. Our market is furnished with plenty of codfish from Siasconset & the South Shore. Wood has been very plenty the past winter the has generally 6.50 per cord.
