1835 3 mo The greater part of this month has be cold & backward, much rain, the wind has prevailed easterly, with many heavy gales, with a little snow. Several vessels were castaway, at and near the great point, some of which suffered much loss, but they mostly got off without much loss.

4 mo Several Ships have arrived this spring, generally with good voyages, which makes a considerable stir in business. But on the whole it is a very dull time among us. Very little doing to fit the Ships out again. The apprehension of War with the French causes the business of the place to be almost at a stand. Although it is the general voice of the people that there will not be War, yet the fears of the people are such that the offices will not insure against War.

14th Candle oil from 78 to 80 cents. The weather is very cold, and strong wind at NW.

15th Thick Ice this Ice this morning.

16th Hard easterly storm, with snow, hail & rain.

Five large stores are erected at the front of the Commercial Wharf, viz. Jared Coffin's which was Cary's store removed. Matthew Crosby's which was the Obed Hussey house [ALIAS?] Edward Carey's, Simeon Starbuck built new, Joseph Starbuck new, Levi Starbuck new

Cold boisterous weather continues to prevail. One storm succeeding another seems to be the course of the season. Hardly one pleasant day in a week since Spring came in.

25th Every appearance of vegetation is uncommonly backward. This morning the cold was so intense that ice was as thick as window glass.

28th Heavy rain storm, wind SE & the weather cold. The wind blew tremendously.
