First part strong breezes. Ship stearing to
south. Saw Byrons Island [NIKUNAU ATOLL] at 2 PM.
baring [BEARING] west. Dist [DISTANCE] 20 miles. Midle [MIDDLE] part
tacked to N. East. Latter part pased [PASSED] Byrons
Island [NIKUNAU ATOLL]. At 10 AM the canoes boarded us
with there [THEIR] trade. So ends Lat [LATITUDE] 1 19 S [SOUTH] 176 50

Friday
Oct [OCTOBER] 23rd
First part strong squals [SQUALLS] of wind and
rain. Ship stearing to N. East under
reaf [REEFED] topsails. Midle [MIDDLE] part tacked ship
to S. East. Weather squally. Latter part
the same. Say Byrons Island [NIKUNAU ATOLL]. Saw
two ships then we tacked to north.
So ends this day in Lat [LATITUDE] 00 52 176 36

First part brisk trads [TRADES]. Ship stearing
to north under single reaf [REEFED] topsails.
Midle [MIDDLE] part tacked to south. Latter tacked

First part brisk breezes. Ship stearing
to north. At 7 P.M tacked to south.
Midle [MIDDLE] part tacked to north. Latter part
