Sir
You are hereby directed to keep your Vessel in the Outer Roads, in a State
of Readiness for Sea _ And on no account allow any part of Your Ships Company
to have any communication with the Natives of this Place, should it at any time be
requisite for Your Boat to come on Shore be particularly careful that She be manned
by those Europeans that do not understand any of the Asiatic Languages _
You will also not allow any of the Native Boats to come along side of any
account, but make them lay at a small distance from Your Vessel & send your
own Boat manned by Europeans to them to receive what they may have or to
enquire what they may want ____ As there is every reason to expect Vessels
from the Northd. & Southd. You will make it your particular business to
bring them to & make them Anchor close to you, and on no account allow them
to have any communication with the Shore Boats or the Shore, but desire that
their Commander come on board Your Vessel with the Merchants Letters, Packets
or whatever else they may have, which You will enclose in a Bag Sealed &
forward to Me by a Country Boat, that shall be sent of to be near you
for the Purpose ____
The better to make your Vessel distinguished you will
hoist a large Broad Pendant & whenever a Boat is required from the Shore
fire a Gun & hoist your Ensign which if you perceive is not answered
at the xxxxxxxx Factory by hoisting the Union at the Flag Staff repeat
the Gun untill it is ____ Whenever a Vessel heaves in sight from
the Northd. fire two Guns, if from the Southd. three Guns, which will be
answerd by the Colours at the Flag Staff & a Boat immeadately sent of
to you ____
As the object of Your Voyage here is respecting the Most _
Melencholy event of the Persian Embassador, you will conform strictly
to those instructions as the smallest deviation from them may be attended
with the most serious consequences to the Public Service _
Whatever Provisions or Supplies of any kind
you may require I have directed Mr Bruce to provide you with
