3d. Considering however the very material and serious influence this great and sudden alteration in the amount and nature of the duties proposed to be substituted for those so long in operation at this port may have upon such an important Item of our Indian Trade as that carried on with the Persian Gulf, I trust that your Excellency will not disapprove of my suspending the exectution of the terms of the Royal Proclamation until I receive a reply from the Authorities in India to the Communication now forwarded acquainting them with the proposed alteration.
