this action. It is my opinion that
it is deserved. I do not think that
the Regents of the University of California
have reformed. They fought to the last
ditch — they reinstated some of the
ousted professors, and paid their back
salaries, only when forced to do so
by the California State Supreme Court.
They abandoned their oath
requirement only when the
Levering Act was passed,
requiring the oath of all State employees.

OVER In my travels about the world I have
I have found in foreign universities a number
of who men who have lost their
professorships here because they refused
to answer questions asked at a hearing
of the Un American Activities Committee
or some similar state committee. These
