Ex Gov. M. L. Stearnes; the carpet bag ruler of the state
was present during the whole trial, & was satisfied with its
impartial justice -- Jno R. Jordan was sheriff-; he got Dr
Telfair, to be present at the execution, and as he was going
in (Telfair) -- he asked me to go with him -- I went in the
jail yard with him, and the poor wretches were brought out --
& ascended the ladder -- with their hands bound behind them --
