Dear Brother

I am ashamed that I have not written to you before
and can give no account of the reasons but because I have not
had force enough to throw off other things and take pen in
hand. I have sent twelve dollars to Dr Wilder it being the
amount into about thirty cents of that note. I think
I shall see him this fall and will put you to no further thought
on the subject. I received a very flattering letter from him stating
his friendship to us - to you in particular. He says he calls
every man who contends as you have with poverty inch by inch
his brother. I went to Exeter two or three days after I received
the money from you and paid Mr Dodge seventy three
dollars. The principal of the four notes was fifty seven dollars
and fifty nine cents. He charged only simple interest which
was fifteen dollars and forty cents. I of
course have in my hands fifteen dollars of your money,
and I had expected you would tell me what to do with it
I dont want to keep it from the very temptation that is
offered to spend it. Write to me immediately and tell
what I shall do. Mr and Mrs Dodge were very cordial in
their treatment towards me and wished me to ask you
to remember them as among the number of your friends
I saw Miss Pearson (I think it was) who was very much
your friend. I also saw the reverends Smith and Heard
who are excellent men both. Dr. Abbot I did not see
we have had a tedious case of church discipline this term

I will not tell you any thing
more about bad writing till
I improve myself
