Templeton. I hear every few days from Mr Clement - had a letter
yesterday with many assurances of good will. I had a letter a day or two since from
my worthy hostes Miss Allen of Rochester and the tallent and
piety and friendship manifested in it charmed me as they always
do as seen in her character. I received a few days since also from
my Minister in Henrietta a friendly letter inviting me to come straight to Monroe
county as soon as I am licensed to preach for he says there are
a number of important places vacant. The assurances of good
feeling toward me from that quarter are worth more ethan money
for this reason that I gained their friendship not a purchase but
by doing what I thought was fair and right and minding my own
business. No news at present. Study goes rather I dont [?]
as well as I did for hebrew but this might be expected from [?]
season. I felt some what alarmed to hear you had commenced
bleeding at the lungs I hope you will be careful and not overdo
in debate or in school. Now comes the unhealthy season. I fear
for you. I hope a kind Providence will deliver you from sickness
Dear Brother if you find any curiosities at the south belonging
to the mineral or vegetable kingdom lay them up for me. As you
walk the beach you may find pebbles which are precious. I want
you to lay in with some sea captain to get me a duplicate of the shells
the scientific name of which is Strombus; the common name Conk-Shell
I want large ones and perfectly natural. The information you
often give me concerning your studies is highly interesting. Tell
me about the religious societies in Snow hill, and whether your
minister is a good man &c. &c. Tell me all the news. I may have
told you that Prof. Stewart has just published a commentary on
the epistle to the Romans superior to anything in this country
or the world, of the kind. Many our class lave this year. Yours in haste

Oliver Baker

I was glad to learn that you talked of staying in Snowhill another year if it is best
