Andover Wednesday Sept 14th 1864 My dear mother Your welcome letter came to hand yesterday morning. I was very glad to hear from home. I hope you will never say again that you are not fit to write letters so long as you can write as good an one as this that I have just received. I got a letter from Grandmother in the same mail dated Sept 9 and written in [Ourasco?]. She told me in the letter that they wold probably remain in [Ourasco?] about ten days longer so I suppose that they will get to Palmyra about Saturday. I presume you are thankful that they have not been home durign the time your visitors were there. I wish you would send me some peaches. I have just bought a watermelon. I have a very pleasant room in the third story 2nd house Latin Commons. I think now however that I shall change it for the third story 5th house English Commons in order to room with Fletcher the young man Lillie recommended me to. He follows inthe senior class. We have a fine air and magnificent view of the surrounding scenery from our back

window. Our room is carpeted and papered. We have a stove study chair, office chair, swiveing chair and common chair; a bookcase bureau, table and stand; curtains, pictures, & clock. Each room in commons is furnished with two bedrooms, a closet and a room in which to store our fuel. We have fitted up one of these rooms for a sleeping apartment the other for a washroom. We have very good board. I am going to spend tonight with Fletcher and will call on the secretary of the club and get a bill of fare which I will send. This is all I can write to night as it is almost supper time and I wish to take some watermelon down to Fletcher before supper.

Thursday P.M. Sept. 15. 1864 I have just received the bill of fare from Sanderson the secretary of our club.

I wish you would send me a sheet of court? plaster so if you have some & send me a piece. Don't worry about me. I have lots to write but will tell it to you next vacation only 8 weeks more Hurrah Hurrah Write Write Write Write Write Write Andover Sept 24 1864

My Dear "Dad" I received your letter of the 19th inst. Wednesday. If it had come one day sooner I would have answered it immediately but coming as it did on the last day of the Latin week and having a "tougher than tedious" Greek lesson to get for the morrow I have not been able to reply to it till to day. The first lesson in Greek that we had this week was in Grammar. There were 31 "flunks" to 1 good recitations and out of the seven probably only two or three did not make one mistake, & een these if called on in some places would have "flunked" Quite an auspicious beinning wan't it? Give my love to Mattie Tefft and to Aunt Henrietta. My health is good better than I expected it would be & I only hope it will continue as good as I wish it be. I can keep up with the class by studying moderately hard, and if have first aret health I can do better than keeping up merely. As to writing so many letters to ------ best if by that you mean my friends I will only say in reply that I am willing to practice a little self-denial in writing if my friends

Give the enclosed paper to Rev. Mr. Eaton. You may read them about the penny post if you want to. don't show it.
