I recieved [received] your kind and affectionate
letter of the 18th, this morning and with it one
Dollar; I was much pleased at recieving [receiving] it. I am glad
you reproved me for my faults for now I know them I
will try to do better for the future. I am much pleased with
my situation here for I am placed here for my good.
I think that I am making great improvement in my
Latin, and hope by the time you return from Washington
I shall be able to construe Greca [Minora?] with great ease
and will try as much as I can to arrive at the pleasure
of meeting your approbation Perhaps the girls will think
that I am boasting because I say that I am making rapid
progress in my studies but if they do I wish you would tell
