Dear Mother,
I sit down with sad heart to
write to you for I have just returned from
the burial in the Seminary yard of Mr. James
Stuart Eaton teacher in the English Department.
He died on Tuesday afternoon of dysentery
& on Wednesday Mr Clough, the husband of the
lady where we looked at rooms, whom the boys
call from his peculiar appearance "Old Death"
died of the same disease & early this (Thursday)
morning (I was told) Mr Dwight died of ^a spinal
affection, & another has died whose name I do not
know. Of Dr Dwight's death I only know by
report as have not heard it from any reliable
source. Besides these Miss Clough is sick with
the dysentery & many others around the hill
are sick although I do not know their condition.

you but that you may be apprized of all symp
