Five of them were rescued, so the
others thinking all were there
made for land. Joe Goodwin was
lost and they never found his
body until last night at ten o'clock.
The police were telegraphing all
day yesterday to find whether he
had been picked up, the divers
were dragging the river, everything
was done to save him but
in vain. The Boardman's are
nearly crazed, and we all feel
very sad having seen him
within so short a time. One
comfort, he was a lovely young
man, so gentle and kind.
Ma hopes this will be a warning
to you not to join boat clubs,
and keep clear of the water until
you know how to swim.
