My dear Son

By a strange mistake,
I deferred writing you yesterday
thinking it was Wed -
whereas it was Thurs. my regular
day for chatting with my boy, so
I take my pen whilst my class
is occupied with a written exam
in[?], and between questions
I will write. This evening the
family is or are invited to take tea at
Mr. Coffins. Mrs. [Write?] extended
the invitation and I accepted
it, forgetting that several visitors,
would attend our reception
that evening. So after tea I
shall be obliged to come home.
Mrs. Wood was buried yesterday
