August 9[inserted above:th]. Society convened. After the usual introductory exercises
Cleaveland, Carter and Eldridge declaimed,g Smith read a compo-
sition; after which the question "Was the rebellion of the British colonies
in Amerca, from the British government justifiable, or was the A-
merican revolution beneficial." was discussed by King and Swift
in the Affirmative g Hennen and Bridgman in the Negative.
The debate was decided in the Affirmative. The exercises of the
next meeting were then made known and the Socity Adjourned.

August 16[inserted above:th] Society convened. After the opening of the meeting
there was an Oration delivered by McLane; A forensic dis-
pute by Barnes and Holmes on the question "was the con-
duct of Queen Elizabeth towards Queen Mary justifiable,,; An
Anthem was then performed by the Musical Society; after
which there was a poem by Evans, an origianl dialogue
on Capt. Lymmes;s theory by French and Baker; and a
debate on the Question "Can Republican governments
and the Roman Catholic religion exist together by
Bartlett on the affirmative and Eldridge on the neg-
ative; after which an address was delivered by Mr Clement
assistant Instructor in the Academy; it was Voted that
the thanks fo the Society be presented to Mr. C. for his
