short of provisions. S.E. rain squalls all
day. I put a signal on the top of hummock.

Wednesday Feb 28th I went with five
men to the north in search of food &
found some ginger. Rain at intervals
from the S.E.

Thursday Feb 29th. the whale boat
with six men pulled to the north

Friday March 1st. The whale boat return-
ed and reported that we were on Hinchin-
brook Island; I maintained that we were
on Magnetic Island.

Saturday March 2nd. Launched the stern-
boat and pulled to the South. Sighted
a red buoy and pulled to the N.W. the water
nearly fresh, a channel about half a mile
wide running to the N. & W. up which we
pulled till dark & camped in the mangroves.

Sunday March 3rd started to the north-
ward at day break and sighted Cardwell
at about 10 a.m. and landed about one p.m.
