As the registration shows, the Summer School was growing.
The faith and works of the Board, Staff, School, and students,
were coming to their own. And the shrinkage of deficits
hinted at a coming even balance-sheet, and a surplus. Dr.
MacClement Director of the School, was thanked for his services and his optimism.

In terms of instruction by the Board, the Treasurer reported
on the Investments of the University. The statement, which
was very full and detailed, is too long for insertion here.
It will be found in the Board Minutes, vol. beginning
1912, pages 41, 42. The report was fairly satisfactory,
although the interest on some loans was slightly overdue.
Queen's was fortunate in having suffered but trifling
losses on her investments.

The world over, the question that bulked out above all
others, was the gigantic war which had embroiled so
much of Europe. And our Motherland being at war,
Canada was at war, and Queen's had early heard,
and responded to, the call to service. The Board, by
resolution, expressed its hearty appreciation of such loyal
action on the part of the staff and students. In addition
to many graduates, in many lands, over 300 men
joined the colors, and others, men and women, in
Hospital and Red Cross Work, were not behind in their
self-sacrificing devotion. The Board was confident that
everywhere, the men and women of Queen's, and Canadians
all, would carry themselves with courage and distinction.
