Macdonald, Dr. Dickson and Dr. Stewart that a Medical Faculty was established in Queen's, and the erection of the observatory, and all the subsequent improvements and additions to the instruments resulted almost entirely from his exertions. Dr. Williamson bequeathed the balance of his estate, after the fragment of certain legcies, to Queen's, and shortly after the funeral the Chancelllor issued a circular, suggesting that the Trustees should be asked to allow the legacy, amounting to about $1000, to form the nucleus of a fund, to be supplemented by voluntary contributions, sufficient to establish a fellowship or scholarships to be known by the name of Dr. Williamson. The proposal was taken up by the students and Alumni Association, and nearly five hundred dollars additional were contributed during the winter. The Trustees cordially gav their consent to this scheme for perpetuating the name of the beloved professor. In the mean time the students had collected among themselves the necessary funds for a brass tablet to be placed in Convocation Hall, which was unveiled at the April Convocation, and which bore the following inscription, --- " In loving memory of Professor James Williamson, D.D. long known as "The Students Friend".
