Ipswich Feburary 15th 1860
My Dear Sir George
I was yesterday applied to by a poor
woman named Keys to sing a Memorial addressed
to your Excellency praying that her husband might be
released from confinement-haveing completed half the
sentence awarded by the Ipswich bench for the assault
upon a person named Copely.
I declined doing so having been one of the committing
Magistrates but promised to write your Excellency upon
the subject.
The charge against the prisoner was of a serious character
and the Plaintiff has entirely lost the sight of one eye.
No doubt Keys had some provocation and both parties were
intoxicated at the time the affray too place. For the sake
however of the applicants family and the high character
given him by parties here to whom he was well known
may to some extent justify my recommending this case to
your Excellencys favoral to consideration.
I remain my dear Sir George
Your most faithfully
? Buckley
