fish, and put them in spirits
of some kind, or strong brine, in
bottles, or cans, and send them
[?] I presume [however?] the fish
were packed in [boxes?] by the
fishermen as they [were?] taken
in the [several?] lakes in the interior,
and forwarded by Express at
the nearest Railway Station,
without the Inspectors Knowledge.

I may state however
that, the last package of these
specimens came [to hand?] a
few days ago in a frozen state;
from an inspection of the ovaries
of these, and from what I could
glean from some of the former
packages which were in a partial
state of decomposition, I would
say that, white-fish are not
mature for depositing their
ova in the Lakes of the North [west?]
and Manitoba, [Earlier?] than
in the [?] of Ontario; which
[period?] would cover the month
of November, and Early part of
December; - I am of opinion
that the [?] by
[? McQ?] [?]
