11 MONDAY

The wind has now increased and we are making far better
speed and have logged 45 miles during the last 4 hours
which is extemely good speed for the trade winds.
The ship is very hard to steer in weather such as it is
now and we are always glad to be relieved at the end
of each hour. The painting of the ship is now in full
swing but although all hands are busy it is doubt-
ful whether it will be completed before we reach port.

12 TUESDAY

The wind has not decreased in its velocity and 240
miles were logged for the last 24 hours. We are now
approaching the latitude in which the "Sagossa" sea is
situated and we have already sighted quite a lot
of seaweed which it is supposed came from there.
The seaweed from this spot is said to be full of small
crabs and other sea insects and we intend catching
some to see if this is correct.

13 WEDNESDAY

The wind has dropped quite a lot and our speed is five
knots We have not reached the "Sagossa" sea yet although
we cannot be very far away as there is now seaweed
about in great quantities. The weather now is getting colder
and an over-coat is quite an asset while at the wheel
also on lookout. The side lights which up until now
have seldom been in use are now lighted every evening
at sundown as we are now only about three weeks
from our destination. The work for today has been
painting the main brace winch and has been quite
an easy job.
