Irishmen ate no meat & it was rather
comical to see the joints of meat smoking
on their tables untouched whilst they
ate dry bread & any other nick nacks
they could get After noticing the
various amusements & stratagems to
pass the time on board it seems to
me that if any young (or old either)
persons who are too busily engaged
with their duties ashore & have
no time for courting if they have
any idea of coming out here they
may reserve it till on board the
vessel & they can put 10 hours per
day in at it if they choose for
they will have very little to
occupy their time excepting
the first week or so having sea
sickness they will then be enabl
ed to squeeze each other like a
