The State of Alabama, Shelby County. To any Sheriff of the State: An indictment having been found at the March Term 1856 of the Circuit Court of Shelby County, against Dolphus Gardner for the Offence of Selling liquor to a Slave you are therefore commanded forthwith, to arrest the said defendant and commit him to Jail, unless he give bail to answer such indictment; and that you return this writ according to law.

August 19th th 1856 THE STATE OF ALABAMA SHELBY COUNTY We Dolphus Gardner and John Mickel Linsey Black agree to pay to the State of Alabama Too Hundred dollars unless he, the said Dolphus Gardner appear at the next term of the Circuit Court of Shelby county, and from term to term thereafter until discharged by law, to answer an indictment pending in said court against him for Selling Liqor To Slaves
