now necessarily valueless; the Rail
Road Bonds remain as before likewise
all the subscribed notes, the whole of
which, as well as the Books, are still
in my possession. It was, after all, a
fortunate circumstance for the Associ-
ation that the representations of value
were removed from the Bank by
its prompt action, for if the name
of the Association and the amt. of
its assets in charge of the Bank
had been given in, i.e. reported,
the whole property, as in other cases,
wd. have been confiscated by Genl.
Butler, & such subscribers notes as
could have been got at wd doubtless
have been coerced into payment.
