ceremony of laying the corner stone
of the new University which you
so kindly honored me with, had
been forwarded from Augusta
Geo. & has reached me only within
a day or two, I have just
returned from Europe, & shall
not be able to return South for a
month. If I had been in
Georgia I should have made
a point of being at Sewanee
