University Place

Dear Sir --

Yours of the 26th Sept. but
was received yesterday, inviting
me to be present at the laying the
Corner Stone of the principal buil=
ding of the University of the South.

Nothing would afford me more
pleasure than to witness the cere=
monies for I feel a deep interest
in the success of the enterprise,
but professional engagements
will render it impossible for
me to be there. --

With my best & ardent wishes,
for the success of this {illegible: Southern?} en=
terprise, allow me to thank
you for your kind invitation,
and believe me

Yours most respectfully
