Baltimore, 29 Sept.

1860.

Very Rev'd Bishop Otey,

Dear Sir,

I have had
the honor to receive your card,
stating that arrangements are
made for laying the corner stone
of the University of the South
on the 10th of October next.

The great distance of
my residence from the {illegible: proposed?}
place of the establishment will
prevent my attendance on
that interesting occasion.
