My dear Sir

I thank you, for the
honor of the invitation, conveyed in your
circular of the 5th inst, to be present
at the ceremonies of laying the corner
stone of the principal building, of the
University of the South on the 10th of
October next, and have to express{?} my
regret that distance and indispensable
engagements deny me the pleasure
of accepting.
