wholly dependent on the condition of said 14th. Street for their
family and building supplies.

And your petitioners respectfully show unto your honorable body
that said street at the point above mentioned, by reason of the
peculiar conformation of the country, receives the drainage from a
considerable area, and that by reason of the peculiarity of the soil
if left in its present condition during the wet part of the year,
would become absolutely impassable, and your petitioners and the res-
idents of the said portion of the city known as Beacon Hill would
be entirely cut off from the principal part of the city, so far as
being able to procure coal, provisions and material as are necessary
for their maintenance and the prosecution of their several vocations.

Wherefore your petitioners pray that your honorable body will
cause that portion of said 14th. Street, above referred to, to be
refilled up to the established grade and that the same be planked
upon the East side of said street over and across the portion herein
above referred to.
