COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE

Oct 7, 1881

Be it remembered that on this the 7th day of October 1881 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in it's Council Chamber pursuant to law. The following Officers are present, to wit: His Honor the Acting Mayor John Collins and Councilmen Thos Clancy, Wm A. Jennings, John Keenan, Moses Keezer and Charles McDonald Thereupon the following proceedings are had: A Communication is received from Tiger Engine Co. No. 2. expressing their thanks to the Council for the Hose Cart presented them; and at the same time they petition to have their Engine painted; Thereupon the Communication is referred to the Fire Committee. The regular monthly reports of the following City Offices are received and ordered filed, to wit: Harbor Master, City Attorney, Street Commissioner, City Justice and Treasurer And now come the persons hereafter named and make applications for the licenses herein after specified for the periods and from the dates herein after set out; and at the same time said applicants submit their several bonds in accordance with the Ordinance relative thereto. After due examination said bonds are approved, and the said applicants making due proof that they are men of good moral character: It is therefore ordered that upon their compliance with all the other provisions of said ordi-nance the Clerk be and he is thereby instructed to said applicants licenses for the periods and purposes following, to wit:

Jennings Oil etc for Fire Dept 12.00 Waddell & Miles Drip pan for engine 3.50 Ordered that the City Attorney be and he is hereby instructed to submit at next meeting a Contract and Bond for the performance of the City printing by the successors of Stewart & Ebersold And now on this the 7th day of October 1881 in pursuance of the Notice published as required by Ordinance No 241, the Council proceeds to hear all complaints agains the assessment required by said Ordinance No 241 and filed with the City Clerk on the 30th day of August 1881; Thereupon comes Catherine Werritt and George Weritt, her husband, by W.H. White Esq, their Attorney and file their written objections to any assessment or valuation being placed upon the property of the said Catherine Weritt set forth in said assessment poll for the reasons set forth in said Written objections now on file; thereupon after due consideration said objections are ordered laid on the table upon the following vote, to wit: In favor of Laying said objections on

And now the Council proceed to the examination of said assessmeant poll, Whereupon said Catherine Merritt and George Merritt her husband, by their said attorney further object to any valuation being placed on their property as set forth in said assessment poll for the reasons as set forth in said written objections now on file, thereupon after due examination said objections are overruled upon the following vote, to wit: in favor of overruling said objections Collins, Clancy, Jennings, Keenan, Keezer & McDonald against overruling the same side And now no further or other complaints being made and the Council finding the said assessment poll correct in every particular, It is therefore ordered that the Assessment poll under said Ordinance No. 241 as sectioned by Frank Seidel City Assessor and filed with the City Clerk on the 30th day of August 1881 be and the same hereby is approved. And now on this the 9th day of October 1881 at the hour of 1/2 o'clock PM in pursuance of the Notice published under Ordinance No. 243 the Council proceeds to hear all complaints against the assessment poll required by said Ordinance No. 243 and filed with the City Clerk on the 15th day of September 1881, Whereupon no complaints of any character being made and the Council find the said Assessment poll to be correct in every particular. It is therefore ordered that the said assessment poll as returned by Frank Seidel City Assessor and filed with the City Clerk on the 15th day of September 1881 be and the same hereby is approved. Ordered that the Clerk Surveyor and Street Committee be and they are hereby instructed to submit at next meeting the items of expense of constructing the sidewalk under Ordinance No 243 & that the City Atty. Submit the draft of an Ordinance levying the tax to pay for the same.
