ever increasing influence. The social,
literacy, and business interactions
which sprang up within a few years
following the beginning of a new
era, and proved that such an era
had come constitue perhaps the next
distinctive feature of Sandy Spring life.
Some of these organizations were dis-
cussed in the first part of this essay.
The Book Club which has grown
immensely in a source od great plea-
sure as well as instruction.

To-day during the fourth period which
we may say is characterized by even
greater improvement and moderniza-
tion we find automobiles, telephones,
Delco eight systems and radios in
abundance in every section of the
neighborhood although the long dream-
ed of and much discussed Sandy Spring
railroad has not yet materialized.
