Saturday JULY 14

Went to see Patty Thomas, also to "Fulford" to see sister B. Annie Hill & sundry patient's called including Mr Laydon. Charles & I drove to Riverside.

Sunday JULY 15

Ernest drove me to Mr Thomas'. Charles dined at "Rosyln." Dora & I walked down to R J Bentleys after tea.

Monday JULY 16

Caroline Snowden came & washed all day. Lucy Stabler called - also Catherine Williams - Bro C & Herbert & several patients called. Went to Wm John Thomas'. Charles took Bro: Elias' colt home & brought me Jus: Powells mare from Round Hills.

Tuesday Rain JULY 17

Took Willie with me & drove to Wm Wrights' & Riverside where I dined. Charles came there afternoon. Caroline Snowden worked 1/2 day finishing washing - Went to see Catherine Williams.

Wednesday JULY 18

Charles & I went to Jus: Halowells & to the office afternoon.

Friday Clear JULY 20th

Was called up about mid night last night & went to Washington Murphy's to attend his wife in confinement left for home about daylight. Went to the office - brought hom from Ashton a walnut "what not" that came from Philad. Recd: & answered letter from U.B.K. Charles & Dora spent the evening at Fulford.

Leanne Mitchell called for advice & med: - Terrible riot in Balto last evening. No mail from there the Rail Road track being torn up &c Bros: Jos: & Richard came via Potomac Road Washington & Mechanicsville. They & Cousins Mary & Ellie Chandler took tea with us.

Jas: Powell called & we concluded a bargain for the little bay mare "Betty" I giving him $90 for her. Went to Fulford, afternoon event to Wash Murphys & Jus: Marlow's.

Went to Jus: Marlows & W Murphy's called at Wm Jn Thoma's & brought his daughter Pattie to Saul Thomas's - Went to Levi Shaw's & to R J Beautley's to see Mrs Kimball.

Was called up last night to attend Diana Fletcher in confinement. Went to Horace Sedgewick's Geo Fletchers (2d time) to Jus Marlews and Jus: Howard's - Afternoon went to office Jas Marlow's - Bro Chas brought Bro: Richard over from Riverside to spend the night with us.

Bro: R left for Balto: in the stage. Caroline Snowden washed for us. I went to Marlow's Saul Thomas's Hetty Stablers. Horace Sedgewicks, Leve Shaw's & Geo Fultchers. Afternoon went to Marlows and to C Stablers who helped me throw my mare and I extracted wolf tooth. Went to Moal Whites.

Thursday July 26 71° Clear "Hottest" day this summer so far, Went to office to Jas: Marlow's & to see Henry Lucas at Catherine William's. Prepared medicine in office nearly all the forenoon. togather with "freshning" my memory by consulting the "authorities" on therapeutics. & Materia Medica.

Friday July 27 75 Clear N.W. Cassandra Sedgwick called for advice & med. before I was up. Took Dora & went to Riverside where we dined - Excedingly hot weather. Tunder storm before bed time. Charley went to Fulford to a little company after tea. Thermometer 93° in the shade

Saturday July 28 75° Clear Went to the office & to see Mrs Marlow. Afternoon went again to Ashton. Mr: Kimball called. & settled his bill. Another thunder storm about night fall. This has also seen another "exceptionally" hot day. I have never known the flies more numerous or troublesome, especially to horses and cattle.

Sunday July 29 75° Clear Went to "Meeting" & drove up to "Fulford". Horace Sedgwick here for advice, prescription &c for wife. Afternoon quite heavy rain with thunder & lightning. After the rain I drove Harriet & the baby up to Murphy's to see their infant and prescribed for it.

Monday July 30 70 Clear Went to the office. Sent Charley to Riverside for the Express wagon and to Leawood Mills for feed (70 lbs a 1¢ pr lb) Jimmy Jackson dined with us.

Tuesday July 31 68° Clear Went to the office. Caroline Marryott called - After early tea took Harriet & the baby to Riverside to make a call. Joe Stabler brought tomatoes & corn Gilpin Stabler brought pears. Made night camp - Mr __ Watters called "electioneering" for the office of Sheriff

65 Wednesday Cloudy E Went to office Joe: Hill called for advice &c fixed lantern. Horace Sedgwick called Went to Horace Sedgwick's to see his wife & daughter. Called at "S.S." stone. Showery more or less all day.

65 Thursday August 2 Rain S.E. Rainy and Showery Joe Stabler called to have wound in hand dressed before I was up. Went to Harriet Hill's

Friday August 3 Went to the office & to Riverside & to Harriet Hill's. After tea Charlie & I went to R T Bentley's to a musical entertainment.

65 Saturday Clear August 4 Went to the office. Charley went to Rockville with the Sandy Spring Base Ball Club - Afternoon Lydia Dorsey & Ellen Snowden called for advice &c. Joe: Hill called in Evening.

Sunday August 5 Went to Jas Marlow's & Horace Segwick's thence to Jno Marsh Smith (Charley & I) where we dined in company with Mr & Mrs S Hopkin's and Miss Duvall. Bro R came home with me via Fulford where we took tea. Bro R brought Charley's watch home to him having had it repaired in Balto:

Monday August 6 Cloudy Bro R got off in the stage for Laurel and Balto:. I went to office & to call upon Cousin Clara Leadbeater.

69 Tuesday August 7 Cloudy Was called up before mid night last night to arrest hemorrhage & dress a wound in Chas Hill's leg Went to office after breakfast. Charley & I drove to Chas Stabler's Afternoon took Willie & went to Riverside and took tea there.

69 Wednesday August 8 Cloudy Harriet and I went to Homewood to call upon Clara Leadbeater

S.E. Thursday August 9 Cloudy Catherine Williams washed for us Went to Fulford for tomatoes. Went to office. After dinner went to R.S Bentley's to [sadlrs?]: Louis Warfield After tea Dora, Charley & I went to Fulford to "private theatricals."

68 Friday August 10 Clear Lydia Jonson called before I was up, & Ed: Bentley whilst at breakfast Perry Howard had wound in hand dressed Bro C. E Peirce Jim Jackson & party went to falls of Potomac. H & I & all the children went to Riverside to spend day with Uriah & Harriet Kirk. Dr. and Mrs Magruder called after tea. Mailed letter to F Tyson

69 Saturday August 11 Clear N.W. Ernest came for my saddle about 2.30 this a.m. Some scoundrel rod my horse last night. We captured a boy sleeping in the hay mow & let him go again. Went to S.S. Store & to office. "Big Picnic" for the 15th Amendment's at "Cincenatta". The Potomac Falls party, passed here on their return home, about noon. Took a long nap after noon.

69 Sunday August 12 Clear Went to office thence to "Woodburn" with Uriah & Harriet Kirk & spent the day there. "Big Camp meeting" near "Gaithersburg". Many people from about here thronging there roads terribly dusty.
