71 Monday August 13 Cloudy Samuel Scott (colored) here for advice & med. Went to the office and to Geo: Tucker's. Rained. Bro: C & Uriah Kirk at the office. Charley & I plowed up some potato ground for turnip patch. Ernest & Herbert took tea with us.

71 Tuesday August 14 Clear & Cloudy Went to the office, to Geo: Tucker's and to Riverside where I dined. Thunder storm whilst I was there. Catherine Williams washed here Prof: Henry Hartshorne & Wm Schofield called whilst I was absent.

S.E. Wednesday August 15th 67 Rainy morning Did not rise early. Drove over to "Charley Forest" & dined there. Drove up & watched the boys play "Base Ball" afternoon.

68 Thursday August 16th Clear Uriah & Sister Harriet called & spent most of the morning with us. Drove to the office before dinner. Afternoon, Harry Lea called. Perry Howard called & had wound dressed.

69 Friday August 17 Clear Harriet & I drove over to "Spring Dale" called at Homewood and took cousin Hannah with us. Went from there to Riverside & home to dinner Catherine Mansfield called. Charley was taken quite sick with very high fever &c. I went to WH Stabler's for ice for him.

69 Saturday August 18 Clear Slept little or none "up and down with Charley all night" he has very high fever. Went to Wm Leizear's to see Miss Mary Ann Leizear. Feel quite unwell myself.

68 Sunday August 19 Clear Slept none last night was called up about 1.30 this a.m. to Extract a tooth for Miss Sullivan. Charley slightly better. Bro's Chas & Richard called on their way to Fulford.

68 Monday August 20 Clear Slept none last night. Charley continued about the same as yesterday. Catherine washed for us. I went to Horace Sedgwick's Reuben Hopkin's hauled lbs of hay for me from Chas: Stabler's Sister B & Frank Gilpin called Catherine washed for us.

Tuesday August 21 Catherine & Peter Williams both came to work this morning. Took Willie & drove to Sharon & from these to Malelon Kirks and Roger Brooke's, home to dinner Charley about the same.

Wednesday August 22 Peter Williams worked all day Son Charley not improving as I could wish Match game of Base Ball. Took Dorse up to the ground to look at the game.

Thursday August 23 Warwick Miller called for advice &c. Son Charley seems much worse. Compalined terribly of his head constantly. Eyes look badly inficted pupils contracted. Shaved the back of his neck and applied cups on both sides the upper spine Peter Williams "tinkered about" all day.

Friday August 24 Peter came to work. Got him $1.65 worth of Mutton from butcher (Hopkins) Ed: Thomas Jr: brought Perry Howard to have wound dressed. Son Charley decidedly better thanks to the cupping &c.

68 Cloudy Saturday August 25 S.E. Mary B. Thomas brought colored boy Perry Howard to have wound dressed. Woman from Perry Thoma's called for med & advice for his wife. The boy (R Perry Howard) has well marked trismus.

75 Sunday August 26 Clear Went to Alfred Howard's and worked with his son Perry (who has "locked jaw") all day Dr Magruder met me there. I dined at Edwd Thoma's. Very hot day Charley "sat up" most of the day.

75 Monday August 27 Clear Sundry, professional callers here Commencing before I was out of bed. Took Charley & went to Howards Dr M met me again. I amputated the middle finger of right hand for boy Perry. Dora spent day at "Homewood" Sundry social callers I was called to John Thomas about 9 p.m.

77 Tuesday August 28 Reached Home about 4.30 a.m. from Jno Thoma's where I left them a daughter born at 2.30. Went to Howard's, Fred Stablers Jno Thomas, Perry Thoma's &c Came home with intense headache Charly & Dora took tea at Jas Hallowell's.

70 Wednesday August 29 Suffered terribly all night with an insane headache from the extreme hot weather, loss of rest and mental anxiety. Made a great effort & went my Round taking Charley with me. Children went to see "Match game" of ball.

77 Thursday August 30 Went to Alfred Howards &c still feel miserable
