Our dear brother Charles
passed from Earth this morning
at 2.o'clock. Willie came over
and took me over to "Riverside"
& brought me back before lunch.
He took lunch with us before going
back to "Fairfield." I wrote a postal
card to Frederic Tyson by the 2
o'clock mail; we also wrote to
Jimmy Jackson to Charley &
others. This has been a beautiful
day (overhead) but very
sloppy & muddy underfoot,
the snow has melted & almost
disappeared in most places
after supper Edwd went over
next door to play chess with
Miss Mary Fowler.

raining & snowing soon after they
left home and Willie & F having
arrived at "Riverside" soon after they
did & insisted when H. coming home in
their carriage. After Harriet & Edwd
left, Willie,Fanny & Dora drove over
to "Atholwood" (with my horse & surrey)
& took dinner there; after which they
brought Dora home & took their own
horse & carriage to "Fairfield." Herbert
Kirk telegraphed to me asking when
the funeral would take place.
