us felt encouraged by our hosts letting us that he is
waiting to put in a new sill, before improving it in
any other way. The hogs were not so numerous or
good as on some farmer visits. After the minutes of last
meeting were read, a letter from the Agr Department
was noticed, and two very interesting ones on the
subject of sowing peas were read, one from James
Allison of Richmond and other from Mr. Burwell of
Howard County, both advocate sowing them to be turned
under for wheat. Nothing new from stock committis
except one member of it said he had Poland China pigs
for sale, showing that a new stock of hogs is being introduced,
The questions were

1st With mill feed at 40 cts per bu shall I use it or
meal for cows, 12 say mix them half & half,
2nd Where shall meat be kept when there is no meat
house to keep it in. Pack in boxes with cut hay
or hang up in a dry cellar.
3rd Shall I use reffuse salt, fine bone and ashes
for potatoes. Recommended to try it.
4th How many have used sapling clover as a fertilizer
Not much experience, some thought it would be
one of the best crops for the purpose.
5th How many will sow field peas, five say they
would like to sow some and, seven say not.
6th Which will improve the land most plowing in
clover the first or second year, 13 think the 1st year best,
and 5 the 2nd year.
